DelHouse is a full renovation of an existing 900-square-foot double modular house in the Western Catskills for a family who fell in love with the region's landscape and culture over a decade ago and have long dreamed of having a place of their own. Developed on a modest budget, the project allocates the majority of its resources to making the house more energy-efficient through major building-envelope upgrades. The design largely retains the existing structure and load-bearing interior wall, relying on interior reorganization rather than major structural intervention to transform the house from within. The proposed layout improves circulation and strengthens the relationship between kitchen, dining, and living spaces, while carefully framing views from and through the house. The project is also evolving through a collaborative process between the designer and the contractor, with each stage of demolition and construction informing how best to align the budget, construction logic, and design ambition.
